I live in iowa, so gun control laws are decently relaxed. I see alot of raccoons along the roads out by my place, along rural fields. I need to get rid of these critters, they've been tearing holes in my house and workshop, and nesting in my workshop's attic. Along the road is the only place i often see them and have what would be a good shot. Before i throw a shotgun in my trunk, what are the general laws about this? Are there laws against pulling over on a rural roadway, getting out and shooting from standing on the roadway (out of the car since you'd have to get the shotgun from the trunk, where it'd have to travel for legal purposes)? What about using a spotlight along with the shotgun once you get out? Do you have to get a hunting license/permit to kill these vermin for pest removal purposes? I realize there's many people who do this regardless of the laws, and that it could be easy to get away with doing just that, but for the risk of negative consequences, i'd rather have some idea of whether it's illegal, if i can spotlight or not, etc....
